Jedburgh to Melrose

When I woke up this morning I was worried about my knee after yesterday’s fall, but all was good when I got up and started walking around. There were just the normal old man groans and creaks.

The walk today is reasonably flat as it mainly follows the St Cuthbert’s Way along the River Tweed. During todays walk I had my second fall on my arse. I was walking across a wooden bridge and the boards were very slippery and skated on the downhill ramp and ended up on my arse again, No major damage this time except for a bruised butt . Stay tuned to see if I can have another fall tomorrow to make it three days in a row.

The walk from Jedburgh to Melrose was nothing special. When I got to Melrose I visited Melrose Abbey which is the second abbey ruins I have seen in two days. I could have done a third abbey ruins but bypassed Dryburgh Abbey

Melrose Abbey is where the heart of Robert the Bruce was reburied and there is a marker stone over the spot.

Melrose is also home to Melrose Rugby Football Club. Melrose was the town where seven a side rugby was founded in 1883, so as a rugby tragic I had to visit. The Melrose sevens are held in April each year and the crowd this year was around 12,000 which is an incredible number of people considering the ground has one small stand and three grass banks.

  1. Hi Andrew. We have just arrived at Tongatapu on the boat and got some data for our phones so have spent the afternoon catching up on all your blogs. You must be getting tired – falling over. Hope you avoided a third tumble. Keep enjoying yourself. Love Heather and Bob

    • Glad to see you arrived safely.

Yes, I avoided a third tumble but had to go to physio today as knee was sore when walking. He advised that I have torn my LCL, but all good to continue as he taped the knee and I broight a knee support
